What’s Your Winning Game Plan
When you compete, sometimes the competition is against others; other times, the competition is against yourself. For example, when I play a board game with my family, I compete against all opposing players; this is true for fantasy football. Even though I may have an incredible relationship with my family or work league members, during fantasy season, these people are my opposition.
There are games you can play that don’t require direct competition. An example of this, for me, is golf. I like to golf, but I’m not a competitive golfer. I recognize my strengths (there are a few) and weaknesses (there are many). I play for fun and not against others on the course. I play against myself. I’m out there to enjoy the game and to develop my skills (knowing I may never get better, but I’m at least getting in a good walk).
It does not matter the distinction of competition (against yourself or others), always have a game plan to win! Here are some steps I recommend to prepare for game day or the season:
- Have a plan
- Have a strategy to execute the plan
- Analyze the results
- If the results are favorable, proceed with the execution of the plan; if the results are not favorable, re-assess the plan
The first step of planning is a critical element. In the planning stage, you should gather and research information that will lead to a winning strategy. In Fantasy Football for Women: Seven Strategies to Beat Family and Friends at Their Favorite Game prepares you for what you need to know about the game and draft season! This book is a must for beginners and a nice resource for those playing for a while.
Using strategies in this book, you can prepare for a winning fantasy season! Can I guarantee this? Not really–results vary depending upon engagement and the execution of each strategy, but I will confirm that these strategies will improve your performance as a team owner.
In the book, I share an anecdote about post-draft results. After draft day, I was projected to end in 8th place in my family league, and 10th place in my work league (remember, there are only 10 teams so that’s easy math!). Using these strategies, I finished 2nd in my family league and 3rd in my work league! Not the championships I was shooting for, but a very formidable finish!
If you’re ready to take the first step this season, pick up and prepare yourself with a winning game plan!
